AOCS/GNC Manager for Lunar Lander (f/m/d)

We are a New Space company based in Berlin and we are part of the Zeitfracht Group. We are developing space vehicles, rovers and infrastructure for the Moon. Our goal is to make space exploration accessible to new customer groups by reducing mission costs and developing reusable space-based infrastructures. PTS cooperates with a number of industrial partners and space organisations, such as the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the European Space Agency (ESA).

The Position:

We are looking for an experienced Attitude and Orbit Control Systems (AOCS) and Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineer to lead the GNC subsystem development for our lunar lander. The GNC Engineer will be responsible for designing the GNC for a lunar lander and coordinating with external subcontractors to develop the flight code. The engineer will also be responsible for the GNC sensor selection, qualification and integration.

 

 Your work will include:

  • Lead the GNC system development
  • AOCS/GNC flow-down of mission requirements into GNC system, system sizing and architecture conception
  • AOCS/GNC design, tuning, analysis and simulation; specific design tasks include detailed end-to-end flight dynamics, environment, aero-dynamics, structures, propulsion, actuator, and sensor system modelling in 6 DoF simulation environments (MATLAB/Simulink, dSpace)
  • AOCS/GNC hardware procurement and testing
  • AOCS/GNC support to spacecraft operations
  • Provide regular technical reporting of the AOCS/GNC design and analysis as well as contribute in the preparation and execution of project and technology studies

 

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in control and aerospace engineering from a recognized institution of secondary studies or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience AOCS/GNC engineering in European industry or institutional entity
  • Proven knowledge of modern control design methods; commercial model-based design tools
  • Validation and Testing as well as AOCS/GNC hardware procurement; experience with rapid prototyping of hardware-in-the-loop systems
  • Ability to interface with industry
  • Good interpersonal, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work in a diverse team environment
  • Proficiency in the English language (spoken and written)
  • Excellent MATLAB or Python skills

 

Nice to haves:

  • Exposure to full cycle of AOCS/GNC development from Phase A to Phase E
  • Experience of AOCS/GNC design in GPS denied environment
  • Proficiency in the German language (spoken and written)
  • Experience with Simulink
